Well, it didn't work for me...
This is fine when your heartbeat is normal, but if that is the case, what do you need it for? I had an episode the other night and used the Kardia Mobile which is why I bought it. First, it took forever to say it had a sufficient signal. It kept stopping and restarting over and over. All this while my heart was pounding out of my chest at over 136 bpm (yea Apple Watch Heart Watch app! That's the only way I knew how much trouble I was in). When I finally got readings, they were "Unclassified" and were totally useless. At the bottom of the screen it said the following: “This EKG recording falls outside of the current categories of the Kardia Instant Analysis detectors. One common reason for receiving an Unclassified response is if your heart rate is outside of our normal range of 50 to 100" (they had something covering part of the screen at that point and the last word was "minute"). So, I assume they were saying 50 to 100 beats per minute. Well, if you have A-Fib, your heartbeats are definitely outside their "normal range of 50 to 100 bpm"! I sent an email to Alivecor saying I didn't understand how this could track A-Fib if you had to be in the normal range of 50 to 100 bpm, butt they never responded. Further, the system gave me the option to send my results to A) a technician; B) a doctor for their review. The technician was $20. and I don't remember the cost of the physician, but, of course, it was higher, maybe $40. By the time I could have sent it off and gotten the results back, I would either be dead, in the hospital or OK. I didn't need them for that. The 30 day trial period is not up, so I can't speak to what happens to your results once you go on basic instead of paying $10./mo. What I have gotten so far is so little that adding $10./mo to nothing still gives me nothing and a minus $120./yr, I think they need to do a lot more work on this device before it is the miracle they advertise it to be. I am returning mine.
UPDATE! I just received a reply from Alivecor and this is a cut and paste of the relevant part of their explanation. I think it reinforces my review. You will note that all of their options cost money. I thought the whole idea behind this device was to let you know when you were experiencing A-Fib. I thought it was supposed to save you money by being able to distinguish A-Fib and not having to trot to the ER or Doctor every time you got a high, rapid heartbeat.
See their explanation to my email below.
"Reading outside the normal sinus and possible Afib will almost always return as unclassified. This means that the detectors could not classify your EKG recording as Normal, Unreadable or AF. There could be many reasons why you received this message. You have the option to send your EKG for analysis directly from Kardia, or share it with your doctor or medical professional"
Maybe I'm just unreasonable expecting the device to work as advertised. This is direct from their website.
