We were worried when we read conflicting reviews so we set up this heater in the tank without fish. Thank goodness we did. It heated up the water to 81 degrees fairly quickly, but the alarming part was that overnight the temperature went to 101 degrees! If we had used it with our fish right away they would have been killed. It has been surprisingly difficult to find a mini-heater that works correctly.
