The following review is based solely upon the specimen I received: I believe that the whistle I received from this company is NOT an authentic British police whistle. Why do I believe this? Because the informational leaflet that accompanied the whistle states that it is a "genuine replica." Where I come from, that's called an oxymoron. If something is a replica, it cannot, by definition, be authentic or genuine. In my opinion, this item is being deceptively advertised as "authentic" because nowhere in the item's Amazon description did I see the word "REPLICA". The only opportunity to learn this important piece of information was subsequent to purchase and receipt of the item. As of this date there are four other reviews and yet not one of them mentions this issue. I can only surmise that the other reviewers either did not closely inspect the accompanying documentation or that such documentation was not included with the merchandise they received. The whistle I received weighs approximately 24 grams and is about 3 inches long by 1/2 inch wide. The surface consists of a shiny metallic material that resembles chrome or stainless steel. However, closer inspection of my specimen with a flashlight reveals an interior mottled with rust. The glossy metallic surface on the exterior appears to end abruptly on the interior. To me this appears suggestive of electroplating over a different base metal on the exterior of this item. The words "THE Metropolitan" and "MADE IN ENGLAND" appear stamped in the exterior. I purchased this as an addition to an emergency survival kit. Unfortunately, this whistle is so weak that, far from being heard "a mile" as some reviewers have claimed, one would be lucky to hear this particular specimen from a quarter mile away. The sound is fair when blowing gently but becomes extremely weak with forceful blowing and totally inadequate to get a rescuer's attention in a survival situation. I would definitely NOT recommend this item for anything but costume purposes and I am quite incensed that it was not described as a replica in the advertisement on Amazon. This will be returned for a refund if at all possible.
