Originally I purchased this and thought it was fantastic. Retraction worked well, locked out, and was all around handy to have. So much so that I purchased one for my brother. Here we are a year and half later. I used the cord about once every couple months mostly for drop lights and things of that sort. The end of the cord rarely came in contact with anything since it was hanging from the ceiling i.e. the rest of the cord including end looks brand new. Tonight I was using it and noticed some smells from inside the garage and couldn't locate it until I went to retract the cord and noticed smoke. I pulled the cord the rest of the way out to find that the reel had somehow worn through the coating and you know what happened next. I took pictures to show that this part of the cord could never have contacted the ground and to show the damage to the cord. BUYER BEWARE!!!!
