Disappointing
I purchased this one pound bag of cloves to use for creating pomanders (something I do every other year or so). For this specific purpose, I'm very disappointed with the quality of these cloves compared to the Frontier Spice one pound bag I purchased a few weeks ago. Specifically, in my bag I estimate 10% of the contents are twigs (many multiple stemmed twigs) or clove debris (totally unusable product); nearly 30% are "headless" cloves (unusable); of the cloves with intact pods, about 30% are on a stem that is jointed (the tiny bit at the end of the stem that is typically already snapped away) or are on stems so short the clove won't stay put in the orange. Most disappointing is the obvious difference (between this order/bag and the Frontier Spice bag) in the color, smell and texture - these cloves appear a bit "petrified", most of the tops/pods appear rather weathered/shrunken-looking and, compared to the other brand, these are rather pale and grayish in tone and seem far less fragrant. After working through 1/2 of a pomander using this batch of cloves I've opted to discontinue the effort and have ordered another bag of the other brand instead. I think these cloves would be okay in sachets and similar project where texture, color, and stems are not critical to the project.
