Lying Liars
I just got off the phone with corporate Bagster, and they openly -- even proudly -- admitted to me that the Bagster doesn't really hold ANYWHERE near the amount of drywall listed prominently on their advertising and on the product itself. They admitted the "47 panels of drywall" claim is only true if it were 47 panels of banded, new drywall (if you had a lift to place it in the bag, I suppose). They admitted openly that it would in no way hold 47 panels of gutted drywall. I got about 19 in before it was full (and I stacked care-ful-ly). 19 is different from 47. Like, really different. Like less than half. Incongruously, they do not consider this to be lying. They assert, instead, that the amount listed on the bag is "only to give people an idea of what it could hold," as if people were buying their product to stand in the parking lot at Home Depot and experiment with filling it with new, banded drywall just for fun, instead of buying it to take home and fill with gutted material . . . you know, the thing for which it is advertised and sold. They additionally admitted that they know perfectly well that nobody would actually use it to transport new, banded drywall home from the store. "Of course nobody would use it for that," Ms. Corporate said, laughing. This is an odd response, I have to say. You don't often get corporate types laughing as they explain in detail precisely how they're wildly misrepresenting their product to their naif customers. She thought my whole complaint was funny. And they didn't return calls for a week, then claimed they had been trying to call me, which is not true and terribly easy to disprove, so I don't know quite what is wrong with this company and, you know, truthiness. Maybe the answer is a class action suit. The issue, of course, is not the price of the bag, but the price of hauling it away, so you really get screwed when you discover that all the stuff you expected to fit in the bag will have to be disposed for an additional cost. It really is that appallingly misleading.
