Not worth you money if your are a Shadow fan.
To me it falls into what I refer to as Wikipedia Pulp Story. We have a flood of writers that have no idea about the history of a pulp hero, yet see a chance to cash in on the popularity them. They look up the info on Wikipedia... Invisibility ✔️, guns ✔️, secret headquarters ✔️ and so on. Now they have all the info they need to write a story. Anything that doesn't coincide with what was written before they can simply dismiss. The now "new" old pulp writer can take pen in hand and "update" the story with every Trope in writing. This is more seen in Public Domain Heroes. Black Bat, The Green Lama, Domino Lady and a few more. Changing the hero to make them more modern. An example is making them more like Batman, because Batman sells. For every ten Wikipedia writers we have outstanding authors who could be writing pulp stories. William Patrick Murray , William Patrick Maynard , Mark Ellis , Ron Fortier, and Roy Thomas, to name a few, all have done their homework and have proven that they can write great stories set in past. I see that having a name like James Patterson on the cover will have people buying it only because his name is on it. It's a shame that, to me, no effort was made in the writing. To simply dismiss or discard the history of the Shadow in a few sentences, because the writer can not use or is too lazy to use what was established in past stories. I did not enjoy what I have read. No idea how this will open up into a new franchise of The Shadow stories. Not looking forward to the Doc Savage 2 novel that is due out next year.
