Big price tag, high hopes.... failed in most expectations
Super disappointed. I’ve been struggling to find a safe method to have my pets travel with me. I have tried practically every option and product, from Dog car seats, dog seat belts, tethers, crates, etc. they are all flawed in some aspect. This being the ONLY crash tested product that actually PASSED, I was thrilled. I think they have the right idea but this harness needs some tweaks to make it truly comfortable and functional. Pros: passed a real crash test. I also like the fuller style harness, that supports the chest with a sturdy plate within it, it is almost vest like. However too many cons for me: Cons: insanely difficult to adjust and get the correct fit! I work with a dog rescue, dog sit and have owned several dogs. I have used nearly every style collar/harness out there. This does not adjust as you would naturally assume it would. It is not easy to adjust at all. The measurements online are wrong. I did everything as I should have and one of my dogs can wiggle out of it, every time she tries and I cannot physically tighten the harness anymore. She hates being strapped in with this harness. She doesn’t mind any other one I have put her in previously or any other method of tethering her in. Which leads me to the fact that their measurements are off. I measured her, and picked the correct size they recommended and it’s too big, but the smaller size (I have for my other dog) is too small and looks strange on her 40lb build. The way the seat belt goes through in my opinion is very awkward. It is uncomfortable for my dogs and they look miserable in it. I wish the style was more of a fuller vest with some sort of back support or strap, so that the seatbelt was threaded through one loop that is more centered. Currently where the seat belt is passed through the harness is on the sides of the dog, making the belt press across their entire back and pins them to the seat. They cannot move at all when buckled in! Not even turn around or look out the window. I think it is good that they have limited room to roam around but I do not agree that a dog should be pinned in place as a human is when belted in. They do not understand why they are “trapped” and then they freak out. I can only imagine a super calm dog being okay with this. Buttom line, only real positive is that it passed the crash test. But my dogs won’t wear it, and they will happily wear others and have no issue being restrained by other methods. It’s awkward and expensive. Clearly one of my dogs gets out of it every time, so the fact it passed a crash test is irrelevant for her, because she doesn’t wear it. There should be a little room between the harness and seat belt if they were to improve this at all. Maybe a type of short leash or tether that connects to the seatbelt inside of having the dog flat against the seat like a human. Back to square one for me... Update: I ended up purchasing the EZY dog drive harness. Also test crashed and passed and has a # to prove its passing as well. Same price point, but much happier with it! Easy to adjust and the loops that the seatbelt passes through is center back making it so much more practical to use tethers and such!
