Unfit Goods
This knife is a sham. It is unfit for kitchen use. To start with, one of the ring-like metal handle covers, at the base of the blade, came detached upon receipt. I will have to sand and epoxy the ring to the end of the knife handle.
A much more serious problem will become as soon as it first becomes dull and requires sharpening The blade bevel has a wrong profile. It has a somewhat initial sharp extreme edge but below that the blade has not been profiled at all. The shaping that it has, has deep scratches, evidence of very crude grinding and shaping. All that done with a very coarse grinding wheel. I will have to regrind (yes regrind), the whole blade and sharpen the edge.
The product description made no mention of these defects.
I am in luck in that I am a wood worker and metal smith.
The average person should not be expected to do this level of modification in order to end up with a functional cutting tool.
Legally speaking, the item has not satisfied "the implied warranty of fitness" of a contract of purchase and sale. (see the Unified Commercial Code, Article Two.
I have encountered a similar situation, in a number of other purchases, I have made, on Amazon, recently.
Seconds or defective goods have been passed off as first quality and shipped out to me.
Hopefully, this problem will be remedied so that Amazon does not end up with a reputation for shoddy products.
