I got this to try and save money on distilled water, but I quickly found white dust everywhere even with 1 and 2 cartridges. So I decided to get a TDS meter to get a clear picture of what was going on. I got two new cartridges and gave them the recommended presoak. One in tap water, one in distilled water. Then replaced the water for each container. (keeping the distilled cartridge in distilled water). After about 4 hours (Not perfectly scientific I know) the tap water went down 40ppm, and the distilled water went up 5ppm. These are not designed for distilled water so I can understand this result, but in 4 hours a new cartridge was only able to pull out ~20% of the dissolved solids, from a single cup. I will never trust this product again to pull enough minerals out of a gallon of water in time for the humidifier to work.
