Knock-Off Stylus with Sub-Standard Functionality - Trust me; I did a side-by-side comparison with OEM S Pen
I'm shocked that there are so many great reviews on this product. This is the first time Amazon reviewers have sorely failed me. At the same time, I'm not shocked, as it goes to show the S Pen is a feature that majority of Note II owners rarely use. I probably use it more than most, which is why the nuances of this fake product bothers me so much (apart from the sheer fact that it is fake).
PACKAGING: This S Pen, firstly, does not come in the packaging depicted (Samsung packaging). It comes in a small white box with a black and white sticker that says "Samsung" on it (it's not even close to the same typeface) which you can immediately tell you're not getting what you expected.
The S Pen itself, however, at first glance, looks like a convincing replica.
FIT: It fits a little snugly, and does not slide in and out as smoothly as the original. Not a huge deal.
FUNCTION: The most blaring functionality flaw is that you have to apply greater pressure for the phone to recognize that you're trying to write, where as the original writes at the touch. It's like writing with a drying Bic ballpoint pen. Because of this, the sensitivity feature does not work well with this fake S Pen.
Also, the phone will not recognize when you attempt to write on the right edge of the screen.
On the original S Pen, you can only right write the tip. It purposefully will not recognize it if you're writing with the back end of the S Pen. With this one, you can right with the back end as well. I guess some may consider this flaw a feature. In fact, writing with the end of this stylus has better responsiveness than writing with the tip.
VERDICT: Know what you're buying: this is a FAKE S Pen knock-off, despite what other ill-informed reviewers are saying. If you rarely ever use your S Pen and just want something to fill the cavity of the Note II from where your original S Pen resided then this knock-off will do the trick. But I don't appreciate replicas that pretend to be the real thing. This product should be pulled until they fully disclose this.
If you appreciate the functionality of the S Pen, avoid this product! Fortunate for me, I found my original pen and was able to do a true comparison. I hope it helps a few people get the truth on this.
