Bests & Worsts Reviews from Amazon

I have to say I have no idea why this series got such positive reviews. I got through half of the first book (barely) and decided there was no way I would read this to my kids. The main character hates school (and lots of other things), there is constant name-calling, stereotyping along gender lines, and adult themes I don't want to have to explain to my 5 year old - or even an older child (e.g. assassination of a president). I hardly ever write reviews, but I felt the need to say something about these books (at least the first one) for those who might share my perspective around what they want to teach and reinforce for their children. I am sure some will believe this is an over-reaction and think the books are fun for kids - and that all the things I mentioned above are just an effort at humor. I get that attempt, and there are some amusing lines, but for me and my family the messages are just too pervasively negative.
