Don't waste your time.
I don't like writing poor reviews because I know that each book is the result of an author's work and creativity. But I can't help it with this one. Rather than being spunky, independent, and torn between her need for the hero and her desire to stand on her own two feet, she was whiny, annoying, and borderline bipolar. There were too many secondary characters who were poorly developed and they were entirely too gimmicky. As someone who grew up in a small town in the Midwest, I can also say that this portrayal of small town Ohio life is wildly inaccurate and that the speech patterns alternated between aw-shucks hicks and something one is more likely to hear south of the old Mason-Dixon line. We don't speak like that. The writing indicated that the author had little or no understanding of medicine, which was unfortunate since the hero was a doctor, and no understanding of the legal process. Since one the major storylines involves a legal battle, it weakened that development. The resolution was ridiculous, though perhaps that was just in keeping with the rest of the book. I found myself shaking my head throughout most of the story. I forced myself to finish the book because I knew pretty much right away that I was going to write a review and I wanted to make sure that I covered everything. My recommendation is that you avoid this book and take the time you would have spent reading it to find something more worthy of your attention.
