Pressurized tank cracked and leaks
the large pressurized water tank sprang a leak in just over 6 months. Bought it in December based on the good reviews and the fact that they advertised that they ship the tank with the filter material already inside the tank. This is so you don't have to do the work of putting the filter material in the tank when it's delivered . . . more to follow on why this is not such a great idea. The large pressurized water tank was leaking from a crack in the wall of the tank by end of June (see pictures). We had to disconnect until I can get a new tank to replace this one, as was told by vendor that it cannot be repaired. Update: Vendor said tank must have been damaged in transit, and so they will not replace. So I guess I'll have to figure out how to get the tank replaced. Tried using some of that flex seal rubber sealant, and it didn't stop the leak. The pressure in the tank just forced a bubble in the rubber sealant that eventually burst and started leaking water again. I've got the cracked area cleaned up again, and I'm going to try some JB Weld, and see if that will shore up the leak. If that doesn't work, I guess it's time to replace the tank. Will update when know if worked. Update: JB Weld didn't work. I contacted FLECK/PENTAIR to see what I can do to get the tank replaced, and the Pentair rep said that the tank has a 10 year warranty on it. We're in the process now of trying to figure out why AmericanWaterSolutions or Aplus Water LLC is not replacing a tank that is under warranty. The actual Pentair people seem to be very helpful, so if I were going to purchase this product again, I think I would do it through the actual Pentair/Fleck team or a Pentair vendor. The Fleck product was working awesome until the leak. And I will definitely update my review if the real Fleck/Pentair team gets it fixed for me. Update: OK, since the tank was shipped with all the filtering material in it, making the tank super heavy, unwieldy, and more prone to being damaged in transit, that is what evidently led to the tank being cracked when it was delivered. It could have been dropped or banged up (it weighs a ton with all the filtering sand and such inside) in loading the truck, somewhere in transit, or even when it was delivered and taken down into my basement. Since it was damaged in transit . . . but the leak didn't show up until 6 months later after the tank had been under pressure for a couple months . . . I was told that it was not a manufacturing or installation issue and since I didn't identify the problem when it was delivered . . . sucks to be me I guess. Bottom line: I've bought a replacement tank from a different vendor, who not only shipped the tank and filter material separate, but then worked with me on the phone while I got it all hooked up and running. They were very helpful in getting the system put together and working, and it took me about 30 minutes, and the water softener system is working like a champ now. Update: It's still working great almost a year after getting the new tank installed. I would recommend this water softener system to anyone ONLY if the vendor ships the tank and filter material separate. It's really not that hard to get it all together and running, but the bags of filter material do weigh up close to 20-25 pounds. So if you're someone who has a hard time carrying around one of those big bags of water softener salt to your brine tank, then you'll have some difficulty in working with the filter material bags. But if you have no issues with the bags of salt you'll be putting in your softener tank, then you should have no issues with the filter sand bags that you pour into your filter tank. And if the vendor will work with you over the phone while you get it all put together and running (like they did me) then that's a bonus. Or, you could always have your plumber come in and get it all working and programmed for ya.
