Surges will go right through this device
Device only protects half of the data path. Pins 1, 2, 3 and 6 have protection - pins used for 100 Mb connectivity. Pins 4, 5, 7, and 8 - the additional pins used for Gigabit connectivity - go straight through, and are not protected. Device description says 1000 Base-T Ethernet is protected. That is completely false. In addition, they didn't even use "real" TVS diodes. They built it with 1n4007 diodes in series off of half the pins, which have no real capability as surge suppression devices. They may short with enough current through them. They may also fail open. Again, 1n4007 diodes are NOT intended as TVS - Transient Voltage Suppression - devices. This device is basically useless for it's advertised purpose.
