If this didn't cost so much, I'd Office Space it in a field with my friends and our baseball bats.
I have worked for 11 years in various IT roles in SDLC and hardware development. I have owned this for about a year. In all of my years working professionally and personally with sound/video equipment, sysadmin/virtualization, financial hardware, and a library of different programming languages-- this is the worst and most frustrating product I've ever dealt with period. It's awakened new and deep feelings of hatred. Hope is a forgotten memory. Let's begin!
Hardware:
- Beautiful picture for a split second until the low light compensation spin-kicks the resolution and/or frame rate in the face down. If you shut the low light comp off (you have to or the camera is set to perpetually fist-fight the image quality), then every time you move, it starts to pull a Pokemon Porygon episode with thunderbolts of lightning (very very frightening). This could trigger seizures from the drastic lighting changes. That's as much of a joke as it isn't. The real joke is this product, holistically speaking.
- Seriously though, if you do manage to get 4k working in OBS for a sec, don't move at all or else the screen will start to pull a bleached out technicolor fever dream. I hope your stream or recording session involves statues because people, unfortunately, do move and that is simply not compatible with this webcam.
- If you do get the 4k to be stable even inside of Logitech Capture, rest assured that it likely won't work that way in OBS. Well, it will work-- but the next time you boot, or even look at the camera in a way it doesn't like, your settings will go back to 720p at GIF/game boy frame rates. It really looks like it was recorded on a calculator or perhaps a field of broken dreams.
- your USB host/controller probably won't work with this, meaning you need to upgrade just to get it to work the way it should. Yes, I'm talking onboard USB 3s (I have a Texas Instrument USB3 host), not even aftermarket PCIe cards. Most USB 3 hosts will not work with this webcam! I highly recommend you do some googling of your USB 3 hardware situation if for some unknown and unholy reason you're still optimistic at this point. Keep reading if you are :)
- wowowow I _hate_ this thing.
Software/Logitech Capture:
- it's really just for config/settings, and this is such an incredible feature that Logitech put in: the settings won't store. Every time you reboot, you roll the dice on whether the camera works. I've made the Logitech profile because they said your settings will be stored in the cloud. I hoped this would store config settings better (read: at all). Just like not using the cloud, the settings will eventually be gone when you do go to use it the next time whether that's in 4 seconds, or 4 months. Just plan on setting the entire thing up like you just unboxed it... every single stream.
- rest at ease knowing that life, and the suffering from this camera, will eventually end.
- just don't. don't buy this. buy some therapy if you do but I recommend that you flee and find cover. save yourself and your family. hide yo wife, hide yo kids. if you're thinking about buying it now, you're not thinking at all.
- some people really do be like "it's beautiful when it works" as if we dumped hundreds into something that you need to find a party of 9-10 companions (at least one warrior and a white mage), break through the veil of driver/firmware shadows, likely needing to fight your way to a new USB host, and make it to the secret garden of 4k, just to start over every. single. day. You'll wonder why you spent so much and why Logitech did this to their paying customers.
- it might be a cool video if some of us did recreate the Office Space scene with Brios though! :)
