PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, LOST OUR CAT TODAY BECAUSE OF THIS COLLAR!!!!!!!
PLEASE IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF YOUR CATS DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT EVER! The only reason I'm writing this review is in hopes someone reads this before they lose a pet of their own as well. This collar doesn't deserve a review but deserves class action lawsuits. I had recently purchased this flea collar for a cat of my grandmother's who was around 5 months old, not quite a kitten anymore but not fully grown either and was an outside stray cat but was now going to be an inside cat (her previous inside cat passed away last Fall) so we needed to make sure it didn't have any fleas or eggs. I had saw the ratings of 4-5 stars and noticed it was Amazon's Choice so I figured it must be safe and effective to be rated so well. It also states it's for cats and kittens so I thought perfect it should work just fine as I know kittens should not have cat flea collars due to the strength differences. After a couple days the cat was doing fine, however, nearly a week into wearing it she became very lethargic suddenly one evening as we had trouble finding her in the house. We immediately suspected the flea collar as we've known of others animals sometimes getting sick after wearing one but always perked back up once it was off. So the next morning (today- Sunday) the flea collar was off for several hours at this time, but the cat had only gotten worse and now was not able to lift her head or get up at this point. She began to paddle as if swimming and moving but remained on the floor with her eyes closed. At the time we thought the feet movement was a good sign but were still very concerned as you could not see her breathing with a weak heart beat and still seemed unconscious. We immediately called our local vet, on a Sunday mind you, luckily she answered but told us she would not be able to see the cat but to go to the pet hospital about 30 miles away for an emergency visit as this is very common in these Hartz brand collars to cause flea collar toxicity and the symptoms all fit what this cat was going through. We immediately drive 90+ there holding the cat in our lap to the hospital. We're greeted by the vet who takes her in and immediately checks her in then comes back to us: Glucose, 40mg/dL, normal temperature but elevated blood pressure. Turns out the paddling was seizures. But it looks 50/50. We let the hospital keep her to run IVs, raise the glucose and flush the system essentially of the poison from this collar. I receive a call around 4 hours later since leaving the vet that she passed away, catheter and all to try and save this cat but she couldn't pull through. After receiving the call from the vet, hearing that the cat didn't even show signs of fleas, this loss should not have even happened as we shouldn't have even put a collar on her because she had no fleas from the beginning. So, a few minutes after hanging up with the vet I had to tell our grandmother that her little kitten didn't make it and that this collar was the sole reason why her pet passed away. I hope no one has to go through this like we did after less than 24 hours of noticing symptoms to having to bury your grandmothers cat who never should've even had this collar. This product is utterly misleading and DEADILY to any kittens or cats even younger than a year or at all. Though there is no belief from the hospital that the age of our cat mattered in why the toxicity was so bad. I will NEVER use a cat collar again especially this very brand and this collar. AGAIN, PLEASE IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF YOUR CATS DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT EVER! I hope this review will saves other's pets as we lost ours because of it.
