RIDICULOUS! If true fan, don't buy!
I am so disgusted with this movie! My daughter loves the Little House books. Because this dvd says "True Story of Laura Ingalls Wilder", she asked for this dvd for Christmas. The two of us were shocked when we watched it. It is not the true story whatsoever. We couldn't even make it through the whole dvd. Laura Ingalls Wilder would have been horrified to see what "Hollywood" did to her story. The movie starts out with Laura going with her father to a shanty being worked on. There is a man's jacket hanging on a post, and she looks into the pocket and pulls out a letter marked "Almanzo". She is then fixated on the person to whom this name belongs, even talking about it with Mary. There are quite a few other discrepancies in the movie, but the one that really "got to me" was when Almanzo, after they were married, takes Laura to the house he built for her. They begin to embrace, and he starts leading her to the bedroom. She stops him and says something like she didn't want their "first time to be here". He asks "the bedroom?"...and then the scene shows them on horses madly galloping out to a deserted house that had been burned down...they get off their horses, start embracing and kissing, and fall to the ground to consummate their marriage. This is utterly, utterly ridiculous! There is NO place in Laura's books where she speaks of sex. Typical of today's movie-makers, having to put sex in it. And regarding how she was so interested in Almanzo....in true life, she was more interested in his horses than she was in him initially.
I wish I could return the dvd and get my money back. We don't even want to give it away, as the story line is ridiculous; it'll be tossed in the garbage.
My daughter was extremely disappointed. She loves the books and most anything that has to do with Laura Ingalls. If you are the type that enjoys wholesome family books and want the "true story", definitely don't buy this dvd. The "true story" title is definitely false advertising/a downright lie. I wish I could give it a negative star rating!
