Great on paper, falls short in reality
I really, really wanted to love this laptop. Specification-wise, it is at the absolute top of its class and for what you're getting, it's pretty much spot-on price-wise, too. As a reference, I was comparing this to a nearly-identically spec'd Dell XPS 13 and a slightly-lower spec'd Lenovo X1 Carbon, but decided that I liked the way this one looked, plus it had some cool features neither one of the others had. Unfortunately, I started having issues the moment I started it up for the first time. I'm not totally sure this is Razer's fault or just a design flaw on Intel's part (as I have read of the same issue occurring in other Kaby Lake equipped ultrabooks, namely the XPS 13 and Asus Zenbook), but this laptop suffers pretty severely from a phenomenon known as "coil whine." It's a very high-pitched electronic hissing noise that sounds somewhat like hissing coming from the speakers, but it seems to happen when the processor is under load - especially when the power options are set to "High Performance" or the laptop is charging. It isn't horrible when running on battery and the power options are set to "Balanced," but I didn't drop $1,700 on an ultrabook that's going to hiss at me whenever I push it. Another issue is the display drivers occasionally crashing. It seems like this is again another issue on Intel's part as other Kaby Lake laptops seem to have similar problems - the screen will go black for a second, then come back on. No error messages of any kind and it's completely sporadic in that I'm not doing anything particularly graphics-intensive when it happens. Again, probably a software or driver-related issue, but something that should have been sorted out before put into production at any rate. Third and final major issue - for all its amazingness, and let me tell you, this display is (for the most part) the most beautiful display you will find this side of an OLED or professional workstation display, but mine at least exhibits an uneven white balance across the screen. This is especially prevalent while browsing web pages where most of the screen is white. Toward the bottom left-hand side of the screen, the whites appear warm and natural, but they begin to take on a blueish or greenish tint the further toward the top right hand of the screen, and it's annoying and apparent enough to notice on pretty much any mostly-white background. That's really disappointing given the color reproduction, brightness, and resolution of this display. If it wasn't for that, this display would be absolutely stunningly perfect. Unfortunately, those things are enough for me to return it. The coil whine is completely unacceptable and is rather well-documented, both by professional reviewers (Notebookcheck, a German website noticed it on both the QHD and UHD models of the 2016 Blade Stealth) and users, and that's pretty much a deal breaker for me. TL;DR: PROS -Screen is bright, amazing resolution, colors are rich, deep, nearly as good as OLED -Performance is pretty good (4K display seems to need quite a bit of power but it manages rather well) -Keyboard lighting is cool, if not a bit of a novelty -Speakers aren't bad given laptop's size -Incredibly thin, looks good -Build quality is very good CONS -Insufferable coil whine (electronic hissing sound from processor) when charging and/or in High Performance mode -Display exhibits uneven white balance from side to side -Graphics drivers issues (screen blanks for ~1 second then comes back on, no error messages) -Keyboard isn't the best (shallow key travel) -Battery life with 4K display is not very good -Performance would probably be better with QHD screen
