I am happy to assist
I purchased this unit in April 2017 to replace a 30+ year old Whirlpool dehumidifier only because it was 30 years old. Approximately 2 months after purchasing this unit I noticed rust on the inside of the water collection bucket. I contacted Frigidaire's customer service people and was told that "rust" was not covered under warranty and " I wouldn’t be too worried about the rust, especially since the dehumidifier is working correctly." which it is. In addition I was advised by the customer service rep that " you can purchase a new bucket, and I should be able to offer a 10% discount off the purchase price. The bucket has current cost of $57.33. If you choose to purchase a new bucket directly from us, our Parts Department should be able to assist." The rust seemed to be getting "worse" so in October 2017 I wrote a letter to Frigidaire, included my email correspondence and a picture of the rust in the water collection bucket. I received the following via email November 1, 2017 from Frigidaire "I am sorry to hear of the experience you are having with rust in your dehumidifier bucket. I am happy to assist. I have reviewed the information you mailed in, and do see that Angelique has already advised you that rust is not covered by your warranty. The functionality of your dehumidifier, according to your letter, is not being altered in any way by the rust. The unit is designed for constant moisture, so some amount of oxidation would be normal. You are covered by your warranty, as outlined on page 11 of your use and care manual."
So apparently it is to be expected that the unit will rust from the inside out as part of engineering their design. I have unplugged the unit and let it "dry out" for a week, then looked "inside" to try and determine where the rust was coming from but short of dismantling it, and probably voiding the warranty I have been unable to locate the source of the rust. As you can see in the photos, the rust "spot" appears to me to have gotten progressively "darker", notice the "rust ring" around the inside of the collection bucket in the October 12, 2017B photo, which I do not believe is a "good" sign. the unit is in a finished basement and I typically have to empty the water collection bucket 2 times per week. While the unit does function I have serious doubts it will last anywhere near as long mu Whirlpool unit did.
