I bought this book for my son. Shame on me for not doing more research about the contents and shame on Mr. Diggs for such a disparaging message to "chocolate" boys. The praise and self-validation come too little too late, in my opinion. I couldn't get past the fourth page when my son and I were reading aloud before I put it down and decided to TRASH this book. Reality is enough of a challenge for Black/African males to face; I won't subject my son to fiction where his unique name, complexion, wide nose, and hair are questioned/derided. Who knows what else is insulted; we didn't make it that far. Perhaps the story ends with a validation of self-worth, but it comes at the expense of being ridiculed in the process. No thank you. I wish I hadn't bought it and would warn others against making the same mistake.
