★☆☆☆☆
Good but not without issues. Bad/non existent customer service.
I am a bit of a gadget nerd and love to play around and test out new toys. I have been looking for something to replace my old roomba 585. Have done a ton of research and comparisons on robot vacuums. Mainly between Ecovacs roborock and roomba. Had an Ecovacs s6 ordered but as shipping kept getting pushed back saw the 950 was just released and pre ordered it and canceled my s6 order. After watching some reviews online comparing it it had multi floor mapping, a better mopping function and higher suction. To me the screenshots of the app looked a bit nicer. However it had a higher cost. My plan was hey if it’s not great or not worth the 799 price we’ll I will return and maybe go with the s6 next. I am currently going through the self mapping first clean of the house on the 50% battery that was charged out of the box. It almost finished my whole first level with just that battery life. So far beyond impressed with the functionality just from the standpoint of the mapping function and whole house cleaning ability. Will add more to my review later with details on the rest as I play around. I wanted to get something out there for anyone who is having the same internal debate I was. Edit- 8/22/19 - have been seeing some issues with the map getting overlaid for some odd reason the app says just need to return it to the charger but still unfortunate that it gets lost sometimes. Hopefully a firmware update fixes it. Will verify when I am home. Reduced a star for this annoyance. Tested the mopping functionality last night and that was actually impressive didn’t have high hopes but it left visibly cleaner floors. Next up will test multi floor capabilities. Edit 8-23-19 - 3 days worth of map mess ups causing me to debate this unit a bit more. I want to like it so bad with all the technical specs. More power battery cleaning ability but if it gets stuck every day it’s scheduled to run that is a bit too much to live with. Have a ticket opened with Ecovacs but no solution offered yet. The workarounds they provided are just short term. Reduced another star and debating if I want to keep it. Evening update - tested just a single room test it got lost again. I moved the base and reset it as suggested. For 800 dollars I don’t think the software is up to par with other brands. Such a disappointment as I had high hopes after the first day and other online reviews I was seeing. Specs to specs it tops anything out there but it seems execution and mapping is what is going to be it’s downfall. Unfortunately don’t want to wait for an update and risk not being able to return it. So it’s going back. Ecovacs - more than willing to test a new update for you but unfortunately won’t have a unit anymore to test with. Minus one star. Great hardware. Poor implementation in my opinion. Just not ready for general release. Last edit- customer service responded right away yesterday but hasn’t said a thing since the straightforward trouble shooting steps. Unfortunate for a new product to try and keep a customer you would think you would be very responsive to get it resolved and keep the 800 dollars you made off me. I think this thing has such potential just seems to be a poor implementation for real world use. Customer support- I opened a ticket for the mapping issue and stopped receiving responses after the initial ticket. I also opened a ticket after returning the vacuum to delete my account and the same thing has happened. Haven’t heard back. With so many other options and companies I might stay away from this one despite some of the reviews posted. Sincerely - An it professional and nerd.
