Low Durability: The tap set is used infrequently for odd jobs that don't fit into our machines, but we still find under light use that the taps dull very fast even when using industry leading tap oils. For instance, we maybe got 1.5 inches of total tap length out of 4 separate holes in SS316 using the M10X1.5 tap before it simply would not tap any further. Threading Depth Limited: The shanks on some taps are not relieved to their smallest point so you are restricted to the threaded portion in tapping depth. This is an extremely simple fix, and a big oversight! I had to hand relieve the taps at the grinder to get them to full depth on those sizes that have this issue. Selection: The selection is pretty nice, it includes everything but the smallest sized taps, and taps that would be so large they would be custom anyway. Drivers: The ratcheting driver is definitely a 2 star. The ratchet seems to free wheel often when changing direction and also slips or begins to freewheel when under torque. The actuator to reverse the tap direction also gets hit a lot when you are using the unit causing this problem to be even worse. Collet Nut System: The collet nut system is really nice to use! Beautifully crafted, and locks tightly. Summary: What I was looking for was a tap kit that could meet all my needs in a CNC machine shop that we couldn't do in the machines. This set does seem to fall pretty short of that. The box is a great organizer, and as I replace taps with higher quality ones It will be a nicer set, but even the core parts seem to have issues. Not the quality I was expecting for the price.
