The camera has good features, it has good picture quality, I am not an expert in the matter but it seems to be accurate enough for trivial tasks.
I have a pixel 2 XL phone, I had the unit for a couple of days when I decided to upgrade the Android operating system. After upgrading the android version to the latest Android 9 (pie), the app was not working at all. FLIR took more than 3 weeks to fix the app. During that time I was unable to use or test the unit. I had just used it a couple of times.
When the app was back functioning I downloaded it and to my surprise, my unit was discharged. I recharged the unit overnight and then tested it in the morning and it was back to normal, so I thought. The huge problem is that the battery life is very bad. After that full charge, the unit only was usable for about 10 minutes. I recharged, discharged the unit to FLIR's recommendations (they know they have a bad design) to no avail. I recharged the unit overnight again, took the unit to work. It was about 3 hours since I disconnected the charger and the unit was already at 14% without previous usage. I contacted FLIR customer service on the issue. They replied me with a boxed answer about the battery even though I described exactly my problems and troubleshooting steps. I went back to Amazon reviews and read a ton of them, and I am not the only one having the problem. I called them because I was not satisfied with their answer and told me that I probably had a defective unit. At this time I just wanted to return the unit for a refund, but since I was already 20 days out of the return period, I was unable.
Since I could not test the unit for more than 3 weeks when the app was not working I feel that they would at least consider exchanging it for one of their stand alone products even if I had to pay a difference. Customer service representatives did not assist me at all other than wanting to do a warranty exchange. I asked for escalation but I am still waiting for a response. Lucky for me, Amazon was able to take it back for a $73.00 restocking fee, which is fair because it is not really Amazon's fault. It was better to lose that money than keep a $400.00 unreliable paper weight.
