This book read like someone wanted to write a book that would be ...
Awful. Just awful. Poorly written, lazy, contrived. This book read like someone wanted to write a book that would be made into a trilogy a la Hunger Games or Divergent. I couldn't even make it halfway through this.
SPOILERS
1) Why would they wait until the girls turn 21 to start trying to get them pregnant? Seriously? They're all getting their periods for years and they're just sitting around watching a calendar?
2) Why would they treat the girls so horribly if their well-being, health (and the fate of humanity) is on the line?
3) Why are the punishments so severe (this makes zero sense)? No food or water for 24 hours???? See #2?
4) Zoey can't fight the other girls her age but she can outshoot and outrun trained soldiers/trackers while nursing a gut wound?? And she can fire weapons with zero training?
5) Zoey magically ends up in the hands of a rag tag group that just happens to be in the resistance and the daughter of one of them is the same girl she was held with?? 6 GIRLS LEFT, in a great swath of America and she finds her cell mate's dad???? COME ON.
