Boring. And I honestly can't remember why I liked this series in the first place based on the latest books in it, unless the writing has completely changed. I'm sick of the flowery, trying-too-hard-to-be-poetic writing style. I don't know if this is a newer way this author is writing, or if my standards were just that much lower when I read the first books in the series🤔 so much of it is analogies and metaphors and the MC's droning internal thoughts that literally do nothing for the story. It's just too cringey and cheesy for me. And the heroine is soooo weak too. She knows her dad was into some sketchy stuff when he was alive and rumors about him also affect her, and she hates that. So what does she do? Not only does she tell the hero about what the rumors are, in like their first real conversation, but it was so out of the blue, and honestly seemed attention seeking, that it literally made no sense. Also, her dad's previous boss's daughter comes around the heroine taking her money all the time, and what does the heroine do? She literally gives her all her money, lets them destroy her shop, and doesn't tell anyone in that town either. She even mentions she has no clue if her dad even has any debt and that they're probably just taking money out of her for basically no reason, and STILL doesn't do anything about it, even after complaining she needs money. Her town is filled with ex-navys, marines, firefighters, cops, etc... People she talks to on a daily basis, and are even in her family. And instead of talking to them of her being targeted, attacked, and stolen from, the first person she tells is the hero who she literally hardly knows and is new to the town. I'm sick of heroines just constantly complaining about their lives or them being targeted, and not doing anything about it, but as soon as the hero shows up, they're all of a sudden tell-all, as if they're unable to lie or something, even though they've been doing just that for years now. It just doesn't make sense, and makes the heroine seem so weak and just plain stupid for her not to do anything, or even stand up for herself. Ugh. So, overall, a disappointing book for Felicity, and this may be my last book by this author if this is how she's gonna continue to write. Safety (up to 30%) Hero has been celibate for years Hero was (unhappily) married then divorced (ex is dead) Hero has a kid No real details on the heroine except there were rumors about her No cheating No ow/om drama
