Keeps your drink hot, but it's not perfect.
I received an Ember mug as a gift. A perfect choice for me because I usually run to the microwave numerous times to reheat my too cold coffee. What I love: it does exactly what it's supposed to. It keeps my coffee at a perfect temperature from the first sip to the last.
What I don't love: The handle is extremely uncomfortable to hold! Every other coffee mug I own has a nice, curved handle. Also, the settings can only be adjusted by using the Ember app on a smartphone or tablet. There is no app for desktop computers and you can't change the settings from the Ember web site. So, if you do not have a smartphone or tablet with a compatible operating system, you cannot change the settings. (The default temperature is 130 degrees Fahrenheit, which is a bit less than I like.) Also, when I brew a pot of coffee, I always turn it off after I pour the first cup(s) to prevent it from getting that burnt, sitting-on-the-burner-too-long taste. So, subsequent cups from that pot might be cool or cold. That means an extra step of heating the coffee in the microwave before pouring it into the Ember mug. I've been using a measuring cup for this. The Ember mug cannot be placed in the microwave. BTW, the capacity is listed as 10 ounces. That may be so if you fill it to the very top, but the practical capacity is actually 8 ounces.
It remains to be seen what the battery life will be and how delicate the electronics are. Trying to be very careful not to drop it!
Your money might be better spent on a thermal coffee mug. (You could probably buy a bunch of them for what you'll spend on this.) If you do decide to buy this, better prices are available elsewhere.
**UPDATE** 2-5-2018: Less than three months into using my Ember mug, the white ceramic coating has begun to flake off near the bottom (see photo). The person who gave me the mug has contacted customer service, since it is still under warranty. I'm afraid, though, that even if they send a replacement, the same thing will happen to it. We'll see. I'll update further as this develops. For now, I am changing my review from three stars to one.
