Better have good medical insurance
When my 20 year old son told me he wanted to buy these RocketSkates I said, "surely you jest." 2 pairs of these and he could have a real wheels. I didn't think he was seriously considering them, but yup. He was. And he did. He caught a flash sale here and save a sweet hundred bucks. The skates came friday. He couldn't wait to try them on saturday. Today is sunday and he is sporting a wrist to armpit splint for a radial neck fracture. He has nerve trauma on the other hand. Tomorrow we go to the orthopedic to see if surgery is needed. He made it to 20 without a broken bone, not even a laceration that required stitching. Oh, and one of the skates broke too. Buying these skates is a really, bad idea. First, there is a HUGE learning curve. Acton suggests it's like riding a bike. Yah, only these aren't pre-schoolers who are happy using training wheels for a couple of years. Unless you have a knack for skates/boarding/ripsticks/ etc. you will NOT get the hang of these easily. Expect frequent, unexpected, serious falls. Second, these things hurt to wear. They are bulky, heavy, clunky. Anyone remember rumble robots? That's what they remind me of. The idea of RocketSkates is fun! Wow! So RocketMan Cool! Reality? These things are a freakin' disability maker. Dangerous. Dangerous. Dangerous. A parent's nightmare come true. A 20 year old super cool guy about to start 3rd year of college just wasted four hundred bucks, is in significant pain, is really bummed, is losing at least 2 days of salary, is facing surgery, and may have permanent nerve damage. Acton's words should be heeded: WARNING! RISK OF DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY. They say later on page 4 of their safety warning, "it is possible for the rider to lose control, fall, collide with other objects, and/or get into dangerous situations that no amount of care, instruction, or expertise, can completely eliminate. If such things occur you could be seriously injured or die..." So that's our story. Unless you like pain, are ok with serious injury or death, don't mind paying $500 dollars and then the hospital bills and therapy after that, don't buy these stupid things.
