I was outraged by the interview with Applebaum on NPR labelling Trump as an "authoritarian"
Since this book is clearly meant as a veiled warning against "Trump" and "Trumpism" I would like to know just what acts of "authoritarianism" Ms. Applebaum believes that Trump has committed, exactly. I see just the opposite in Trump. A reluctance to make unnecessary, interminably-festering and fundamentally unwinnable "wars" in the Middle East, coupled with a proper fiduciary care for the welfare of the US nation as a whole, as well as a solicitude for the US national defense, and hence its safety, by the building back of its military. Or was Ms. Applebaum just humoring the obvious bias of the NPR interviewer in his effort to twist the message of her book to attack Trump?
By contrast to Trump's eminent regard for federalism—as well as for their paralytic fear of a virus that appears to be a repeat of the 1968 Hong Kong flu virus—the Left's incessant acts of authoritarianism (not to mention rudeness and vicious malice) have been extensive, particularly in their efforts to silence and "Boycott, Divest, and Sanction" all conservative speech from the public sphere.
