My home is a solid home, built just 15 years ago in Fenton, Michigan. We have a solid foundation with I-Beams for each floor on our two-story home. There were original crappy windows in the home when we moved in 4 years ago. They didn't open well, but no stress cracks. Last year we spent nearly $9,000 for new windows. Less than a week after the windows were installed, we installed this film on nearly all the windows and the sliding door to the back yard. It is difficult to install, but manageable. I followed the instructions to the letter! That having been said, I have had two of my newly installed windows break due to heat expansion in the last year. I am going to take all of this film off and find another solution to this problem. Furthermore, I called the company, and they said they would e-mail a claim form for the issues I have been having. They spent ten minutes on the phone with me explaining that this is not possible to have happened once, let alone twice. They tried to claim that it "reflects" heat. Well, that's not the case. The film does not "reflect" heat, it is supposed to reject heat from entering the home, which is not the same thing. The film is black, by nature, that color absorbs light (and heat). The seals heated up to an unreal temperature and broke the glass window pain on the outside where the film is located (which is a clear indicator of the film causing the problem). Additionally, the customer service representative in the claims department at Gila apologized, but tried to sell me the mirrored product instead! I already bought a 100 foot role of this stuff for over $150 bucks, paid for 3 install kits at my local hardware store (as I installed on several several windows), and then complained about two windows breaking at the seals on the outside due to heat absorption rates being too high from the film. I can't believe this company trying to sell me more product after causing breakage, not sending me a claim form, and not even offering to refund my money as a customer satisfaction. I have the receipt here on Amazon and I can prove I have had this for just over a year. It is really sad to see such a good idea go so wrong. The moral of the story is that this company is crap. They do not care about you after you make the purchase and they lie. Even though I installed outside my window as per their instructions, my windows are expanding due to heat absorption and breaking. These are not cheap windows, and they are brand new. I am not happy, I am upset. I called to be reasonable, and they blew me off and said, "impossible." That's not the case, clearly! I never recommend this film or any other DIY film as a result. I would highly recommend you pay a professional and make sure they are licensed and warrantied for this possibility. You don't want to be in my situation and have bought nearly $200 in product, spent a week installing it, and have to replace two new windows out of pocket! It might not be ideal having curtains, but they don't cause this issue!!!!
