While this book appears at the beginning to be told from the viewpoints of young teens, I don't think I would have gotten it if I had realized just how violent and disturbing this book is. As you proceed, there are adult voices as well, police procedures and evil. the first death is that of Ellie's dog, who is found headless in the snow. A group of 13 year old kids begin to receive taunting e-mails from the person who killed the animal. The mistake was thinking that everything was being done by another teen. The author writes a well paced, taut suspense novel but despite the young characters, this is not a book children should be reading. If it were a film, it would get an R-rating for violence. Revenge murders, kidnapping, torture made all too real by the author. I wish that I had never bought it or read it.
