Nice looking scale w/ nice features...but fails at sensitive measurements...
So, I bought this scale and was excited to use it for weighing food for cooking. The other bonus nutrition features are nice, but the main reason I got this was for cooking. So, today, I tried to make pesto sauce from scratch. The recipe calls for: 100gr of Basil 40gr of Pine Nuts 100gr grated Parmigiano reggiano/Parmesan Cheese 20gr Pecorino Romano Cheese 100 ml of Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1 Garlic Clove 5gr of large-grain Salt Okay...so I wanted to make HALF the amount. First problem...I put a bowl on the scale and tared it. I then put in a bunch of basil leaves, and the weight didn't change! So, I took the bowl off and the put it back on and RE-tared. Then, I put the leaves in, and the weight then jumped to 12 g...and it STAYED there after I put in another 10 leaves. Finally, kept reTARing, and I think it finally got to around 50 g... Now, w/ the salt...it must have an autocalibration feature, so it doesn't recognize small increments in weight. It only went to 2 g after I had put like a teaspoon of salt on the device. That's definitely NOT 2 g! More like about 5 g!! Did a better job w/ the pine nuts, but I think it fails w/ very light objects (where adding successive amounts of them such as leaves or grains of salt) causes it to UNDERestimate the total amount on the scale. Maybe I got a defective one, but if this is the case w/ the scale, I guess it's going back. Shame too, as I like the backlit screen and the bonus features of having nutrition available. But if it fails at its primary purpose as a measuring device, then I can't really use it in the kitchen....
