Disappointing, Pseudoscience, Possibly Dangerous!
This book was a HUGE disappointment to me. I was a fan of the author Joe Dispenza’s book, “You Are the Placebo” and recommended it to my friends and students. I cannot say the same for this thinly disguised 307 page ad for his workshops and online products. “Becoming Supernatural” contains an amazing amount of pseudoscience being passed of as legitimate medical studies. If that were not bad enough Mr. Dispenza mixes a slurry of time honored practices of meditation from East Indian and Chinese disciplines freely combining them with out regard to their actual practices or actual effects on the body and mind.
I know this because my background is in Taoist, Tibetan and East Indian meditation and Qigong practices studied with legitimate Chinese and Tibetan masters of these arts. These meditations are subject on which I have written, taught and lectured for over 30 years. The second meditation that is presented in his book, like the other exercises are not completely explained. You have to buy the information from his website. The second meditation concerns me the most as it is a blend of Chinese Taoist reverse breathing and Indian Kundalini Yoga.
Both of these practices are capable of causing psychological and physical harm if not practiced as taught first hand by a legitimate master. There can be legitimate recognized side effect called the Kundalini syndrome or Kundalini psychosis (Google it) so readers are warned to be very careful with self instruction from this book.
I truly wanted this book to be something I could recommend. Now I am stuck with it on my Kindle because I took the time to read through the long laborious 307 page ad, book and passed the date for a refund.
Would have rated it 0 stars but that is not available.
