I got the complete clarification from the manufacturer. It is not a ten-year life as the ad purports it to be. It is a 10 year shelflife. That is all. Once it gets placed in your smoke alarm, all warranties are off. They cannot certify how much draw your smoke alarm is putting on The battery. So there are holes in what the "industry expert" says. You do not know how long your seller has had it on their "shelf" so you have no idea how much chance you could have of the battery being strong enough once you start using it. Plus, do you know how much "draw" your smoke alarm uses? Just save your money and buy a bunch of 9 V batteries. We got three years of use out of our batteries that were manufactured four years ago and sat on our "shelf" for six months. 10 year batteries are a scam.
