Great Retro Style Belies Actual Junk Product
Let's face it: you'd only order this thing for its style/looks. As a species we've pretty much got toaster technology dialed in -- at this point it takes real effort to screw-up the actual electro-mechanical process for toasting bread. At least that's the reasoning behind me ordering this particular toaster.
Imagine my disappointment when it arrived with dings and scratches all over. I returned it to Amazon immediately and received a replacement two days later (yay Prime!). Frustratingly, the replacement also was scratched (although not as badly as its predecessor) but also had a screw or something rattling around its innards. Try as I may I couldn't get this loose part out from within the chassis.
Carefully weighing my need for a new toaster against my desire to not reduce my home to a smoldering pile of ash (and, to be fair, possible toast) via a toaster-inspired electrical fire spawned from my hubris of wanting such a good-looking (yet ultimately irresponsible) toaster, I returned the second unit and requested a refund.
In defeat, off I go now to a brick-and-mortar store in search of a more humble, sensible, and less disappointing device for my toasting and toaster pastry needs.
The lesson: Never trust good looking things that you meet online; they often lead to regret.
