We have to separate our recycle and trash, so I thought this would be the perfect product. I was wrong. The lid Sounds like it is trying way too hard when it opens. (My friend's auto-lift can makes no sound.) The inside compartments are WAY too small. It states that you use a 13-gal. kitchen bag, but the opening for the trash side is only 8x8 square. The recycle side is even smaller (approx. 6x8), making it extremely difficult to recycle something as simple as a cereal box. Additionally, the recycle side does not have a pull-out plastic liner, so you have to line it with a plastic bag. The plastic bag usually rips and then can't be re-used, effectively negating the benefit of recycling since trash bags are not recyclable. I'd like to return it, but I've been using it so I will likely end up donating it to good will. .
