Unexpected hazard and unpleasant experience
Overall, my experience with this product and this company was unpleasant. I came away with the impression that this company cares more about its bottom line than about its customers. I ordered this for my father who is unable to walk and needs a way to get safely into and out of the bathtub. After tons of research, I found this product, which seemed to be unique in its quality and construction. When I got it out of the box, the seat would not lock into position but ran dangerously side to side on the casters, and the poles were sliding back and forth also. Even after assembly, the seat could not be Iocked. So I disassembled it and put it back into the box in order to return it. In the process, the freely sliding seat painfully pinched my arm and left a bruise. Lesson #1: This item is heavy and unwieldy and liable to cause minor injuries even during assembly/dissassembly. When I put in my request for a refund, a rep called me and told me to try twisting the plastic tubing inside the metal shaft, which sometimes gets dislodged into the wrong position. So despite having boxed it up, I went ahead and assembled it yet again and made the adjustment. The rep's suggestion did work and the seat could be locked into position. Unfortunately, the assembled height of the seat (you have to take into account the bathtub rim height) was going to be too tall for my father. It would be too difficult for us to hoist him onto the tall seat, and then he could have fallen off. And the legs on the outside of the tub stick out a bit beyond the seat itself, so they create an unexpected additional obstacle to getting someone on the seat. Additionally, be warned that since 2 of the legs stick out of the bathtub, there will be no easy way to keep the shower water from spraying all over outside of the tub. Lesson #2: Before purchasing a $300+ item of medical equipment, try it out somewhere first, if possible. So, I had a very expensive and useless product on my hands. When I asked to return it, they were willing to take it back, because it hadn't been used. However, they were very firm about their 20% restocking fee. And, I would have to pay for the return shipping. Lesson #3: I should have kept the chair in the box and returned it immediately instead of taking the trouble of pulling it back out to reassemble it. The return shipping cost was $50, and they deducted $66 from my refund. So I am out $116 and time+energy for a product we did not need. The hilarious part was that this company sent me a very friendly email asking me how this product was working out and that they were committed to doing everything they could to ensure customer satisfaction. But when I told them of my situation and asked for a reduction in the restocking fee, they weren't willing to do anything about it. Lesson #4: I will never do business with this company again.
