Yeesh
I've followed the writer for years - she was a huge inspiration to me when starting my own small farm - and found that her enthusiasm and fearlessness generally make for great reading. This book, though, is almost unreadably purple. Descriptions of washing her face in the May Day dew and embracing the humidity as a lover had me rolling my eyes so hard I think I may have sprained something. Woginrich lampshades this about halfway through the book, mentioning that she's been criticised for writing "too romantically" about her life on the farm, but I don't think that romance is the problem here. She grasps at metaphor like a tenth grader writing about their first real crush. Combined with the lack of practical information on farming makes this, in my opinion, her weakest book. I still do highly recommend Made From Scratch and Barnheart, but I'd advise most readers to skip this one.
