Very Disappointed
I am quite disappointed with this mixer in just 1 week of owning it. There are Pros, but I'm not sure those outweigh the Cons.
PROS:
1) The Power - it does a fantastic job kneading bread dough and I can use my Kitchenaid attachments without it bogging down, such as the pasta press, - my Kitchenaid Ultra Power could not power the press sufficiently and I couldn't make spaghetti noodles with it, but the Proline 7 qt makes it SO easy!
2) The Color - I purchased the sugar pearl silver and it is very lovely, matches my stainless steel appliances
3) It is easy to clean
4) the large whisk, spiral dough hook, and large flat-beater are great and make quick work of mixing doughs/batters.
CONS:
1) The loud clicking noise! I am SO disappointed that Kitchenaid has not fixed this issue which it seems some unlucky customers (like me) have had with their mixer. I have read some reviews where customers say theirs is so quiet, I am so envious! The motor itself is quiet, but the clickety/clack is just awful. Sometimes the click starts right off the bat, other times it's a "slow build" but you can be quite sure that once any dough comes together, the "click" gets louder & louder.
2) Grease in my dough (see photo), not so yummy! (& yes, I cleaned everything before using). The mixer was leaking grease from the planetary action part. (not sure if thats the right description - the round thingy that rotates the beater).
3) The loud clicking noise!!! (sorry to say it again, but it is VERY annoying!)
I contacted Kitchenaid customer service because I had read reviews where others said the clicking is NOT NORMAL and their mixer was "quiet as a kitten". I do not see how any clicking noise on a mixer would be normal. Anyway, the Kitchenaid rep asked to hear my mixer. After hearing it, she said they would ship me a replacement. I was very happy & excited to be getting a replacement mixer that would not click, until I received my replacement this morning & tried it out. Got the ingredients in my "new" mixer and wouldn't ya know, there's the constant CLICK CLICK CLICK! NOOOOO!!!! I could have cried! And on top of that, the replacement mixer's motor is MUCH louder than the original one it was suppose to replace!
I have uploaded a video of the two mixers (original & replacement) because during the week since I've had the mixer, I have been searching the Internet for videos/reviews to see if any one else has had the same problem. I found a couple videos that did replicate the clicking sound and read a few reviews from other dissatisfied customers complaining about it. I hope to hear from Kitchenaid customer service as I contacted them that the replacement is worse than the original and I want to send the replacement back! It's so upsetting that I saved up for the hearty price of the 7 qt proline, was so excited to finally get it because of all the baking I do, and now I just don't know if I can take the clicking sound everytime I want to bake. (And I bake ALOT, mostly bread 5-6 days a week). Our family room is right off the kitchen, so the clicking sound doesn't just annoy me, but anyone who is in that room as well.
So I guess this review is a "buyer beware". Watch the video & decide for yourself. I am hoping that I hear from Kitchenaid and maybe I will be one of the lucky ones that gets a truly quiet mixer (as they advertise it to be). On a side note, please be patient with the video, this is literally the 1st video I have ever uploaded, but I am so frustrated, I thought others should know what they might be getting before they shell out $500+ on something they may not want to listen to over and over and over. (or try to replace & get the same noise or WORSE) By the way, in the video, bread dough is half a recipe (3 1/4 cups flour) so it is a light load, the cookie dough is also a small batch, about 3 dozen worth.
Does anyone have a 7 qt proline that doesn't click? Anyone know how to fix the click?
