Mostly sugar, and mostly inedible
I recently acquired this from my local Costco, and I didn't do my due diligence before making the purchase. I have not had a chance to eat any of the meals yet, so I can't speak to flavor. What I did do, was some math based on information on the labels. While there are some quality calories here, the manufacturer of this product is using a bit of a dirty trick to bolster the overall calorie count to make it sound more impressive than it is. ~18% of the total calories in this bucket come from the "Orange Drink" mix. Which is packed with 29g of sugar per serving. Another ~10% of calories come from the "Brown Sugar & Maple Multi-grain Cereal" with 16g of sugar per serving. Let's put that into perspective for a moment, that is ~28% of the calories for this bucket coming from two of the "items" listed in the contents. Total in this bucket you get about 19540 calories spread across ~140 servings (I know the front of the bucket says 124, but there are "bonus" servings not included there). 40 of the 140 servings come from the two high sugar items, with a calorie count of ~5520. For the purpose of this exercise, let's exclude the high sugar items and then examine what we have. Total Calories: 14,020 Total Servings: 100 With a 2,000 calorie/day diet (which is what these kinds of bucket strive to achieve) that gives you ~7 days worth of food that isn't overflowing with sugar. I paid about $60 dollars for this bucket. Which means, excluding the sugary stuff, it is about $8.58 a day for food. That is on the low end of cost for comparison to other (better) options. If you want a better quality food source with better variety, it will run ~$14 per day (Numanna as a reference). One other minor disappointment is that most of the bags are not resealable. I will update this with a flavor opinion once I have tried a few of them. --Update on Flavor-- Tried a few, the beans and rice came out kind of like school paste, and the Mac and Cheese was not edible. Not brave enough to try anymore of them.
