It was great....until it wasn't.
I've had this vacuum for 6 months. Bought it after we moved into a new construction home with mostly hardwoods (only carpet in a few bedrooms). We don't have any pets, nor does our house get very dirty....so the vacuum hasn't had to work too hard in its lifetime. A couple weeks ago, the brush roll stopped working. We'd flip the switch to turn it on carpet mode, and there would be no green light (or red light, or red flashing light)...just no light at all, and no spinning. The brush and all hoses were clean and free of debris, so I called Shark Customer Service, assuming this would be covered under their "5 year warranty" and they'd either send me a new part or new vacuum. Nope. The lady informed me that the vacuum would need a whole new "bottom part," which is a wear and tear item, so it would cost me $95 for them to send me a new part. $95, when the new vacuum only cost $150! After some polite arguing, she offered a discount on the part, but it would still cost me $50....for a 6 month old vacuum. So now I'm just really disappointed, because I really liked this vacuum, and have recommended it to several people....but the idea that I'd spend 2/3 of the original cost on a replacement part after 6 months is absurd, and just plain horrible customer service.
