PLEASE do not purchase these. I am not an environmentalist or an animal rights activist - I am just someone who learned the hard way that these shrimp are amazing creatures that should not be kept in these enclosed glass balls. I know they are beautiful and interesting and I completely understand the temptation; I fell for it myself and so did my husband. However, these products are not truly self-sustaining. Instead, the shrimp trapped inside are a very hardy species which can tolerate years of starvation and water toxicity. The shrimp in both of our ecospheres became less and less active until they barely moved and they turned very pale, which is a sign of stress. They also got smaller and smaller as they starved to death. I began to feel terrible about how they were being kept. I eventually created a new tank for them and now they are completely different - they are very active all day long, they are growing and molting, and they are bright red again. I beg of you to read the information about them at this great site (not mine) and reconsider: [...]. If you really want these shrimp, there are other ways to get them and keep them happy and healthy (and they will live MUCH longer than in the EcoSphere).
