Super mixed feelings about this bulb
I am an electrical engineer and I love LED technologies. I'm always excited to see the latest and greatest from all the different companies. I feel that this bulb is fairly inferior to it's competitors. I love the way this bulb looks, and that it is super lightweight, and gives a very incandescent true 2700K color temperature. Everything about this bulb is amazing except for the buzzing sound it makes while it is on. I'm not sure how this bulb make it through testing and on to production because the noise it makes is terrible. Some people say I just have super sensitive ears... but hey other reviewers have made this same point so it is not just me or that I got one bad bulb. There must be a FET or something that Phillips has used to lower the voltage for the LEDs that is a super cheap part or something because this bulb vibrates a lot... causing that humm noise that it so awfully makes! Okay so that being said... sometimes the humm is less noticeable. Different light fixtures will dampen this noisy bulb better than others. I hear the buzzing less when the bulb is in a long gooseneck type lamp. I hear the buzzing the most in a plain ceramic bulb base fixture. Some table lamps dampen the vibration buzzing more than others. All in all this bulb may work for some people... those who don't mind buzzing bulbs, or those who place them in fixtures that dampen the buzzing. They also are not rated for enclosed fixtures (They would get too hot and cause damage to the bulb or even fire). Very cool design, very terrible testing and engineering. I say stick with Cree bulbs because they are better engineered and don't make noise and can be placed in an enclosed fixture... even though that little dark spot on the tip is annoying.
EDIT: On 12 Apr 2015 I saw some of these bulbs for a super great price so I decided to give them another try. My new bulbs were silent!!! My older bulbs still buzz and hum until I go insane. Quality control is surely a problem for them. I'm happy that I got some better bulbs but my review still pertains to those bulbs out there that are terribly noisy which is still happening.
