Am I a literary snob?
Persuaded to read this book by all of the 5-star reviews, I eagerly jumped into the story. After several pages I had to put the book down and go back to the reviews, book description and words of praise by both Douglas Preston and Stephen Coonts - WTF? You know the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover"? I am NOT speaking metaphorically here. DO NOT JUDGE THIS BOOK BY ITS COVER. The "New York Times Bestseller" hype is complete fiction. I searched the New York Times Bestseller archives for ANY of his books and found absolutely no reference whatsoever to this author. Kirkus Reviews has only reviewed "The Cure" - which I found a little strange, because they seem to review EVERYTHING.
The writing is stilted, adolescent, pedestrian and overflowing with tired cliches.
The characters are one-dimensional.
I do not attempt to finish unreadable books - and I'm even trying to rationalize completing this rev -----
