Don’t make the same mistake as me
I am attempting to rip the carpet off my stairs, strip the paint off the stairs under them, then sand and stain. My house was built in 1950, so prior to sanding the stairs I figured I should test them for lead. Five different spots on the stairway all came out bright red. Same with the trim in the bathroom. Now worried, since I have a young child, I called and setup a lead inspection. Lead inspector came out yesterday and found NO lead anywhere on the staircase. She tested everywhere with the XRay machine. Bathroom, no lead in the paint either. Curious I then had to do the front windowsill because this test had came back as no lead. Her X-ray gun reported high levels of lead. She actually asked me what test kit I used. She had never heard of these. I gave her the rest of the swabs, since they clearly don’t work anyways. She is going to check into them more. Anyways, don’t waste your money. I ended up spending an additional $125 for a real lead inspection for no reason.
