The #30088 Hykore DLX Precision rest as it comes will only work for -certain ranges of recoil energy- that depends on your specific ammunition and rifle weight! Before you buy, you must first determine the recoil energy that your rifle will have with the ammunition you'll use. You won't find this out until you get the instruction booklet that comes with the rest. For the dealer web sites not to mention this is inexcusable. It's not mentioned on the dealer ordering sites or even the Hyskore web site unless you first download the instruction booklet PDF for that specific rest. They say something like "Gas-dampening is suitable for all popular calibers from 7 mm to .375 HH", which is only PART OF THE STORY. The DLX rest out of the box with the included compression damper is designed for powerful rifles and loads having a heavy recoil energy, 18-45 ft-lbs! The DLX rest instructions specifically warn: "DO NOT EXCEED THE LIMITS OF THE COMPRESSION DAMPER!" This means DO NOT GO BELOW the range of the recoil damper OR ABOVE IT. It's just as bad for your rifle to use it with a damper that's too stiff as it is with a damper that's not stiff enough. First determine your recoil energy in ft-lbs using one of the recoil energy calculators referred to on the Hyskore web site. The DLX rest NEEDS THE OPTIONAL SPRING PACK TO WORK with the .30-06 U.S. service rifles like the M1 Garand, M1903 Springfield, M1917 or British Lee-Enfield rifles using .303 British ammo, which all have a recoil energy of 11 or 12 ft-lbs. The DLX rest will not work with these rifles without the spring pack. You can use the DLX rest with lighter recoil rifles like the AR-15, but you need to buy the optional spring pack #30028 for another $15. This is not really a -precision- rest. Many parts have a sloppy CHINESE fit and you can't expect it to accurately return to the same point of aim after a shot. If you want to use an M1903 Springfield .30-06 or similar rifle with USGI M2 ball ammunition, you need the spring pack. Same for M1 Garand and British Lee-Enfield service rifles.
