First, I did not purchase this item through Amazon, but I did purchase it at a big box home improvement store. Anyway, I purchased this valve because it was described as a "Quiet Fill" valve............and it was just that for about 3 months. Then, the whine arrived. Toward the tail end of each fill, the valve started making a horrible hissing and whining sound (definitely NOT QUIET). Fortunately, the big box store refunded me my full purchase price and I went back to the standard replacement valve that I have used throughout my over 17 years of owning homes. If you're new to replacing these valves, it's an easy fix. Shut the water off at the wall valve, flush the toilet (to get most of the water out of the tank), then place a towel or bucket under the valve attachment are of the tank and unscrew the water line from the toilet valve, then unscrew the valve (nut under tank), then pull the old valve out (here comes the leftover water in the tank), place the new valve in, tighten everything down, re-install the water line, turn the water back on, and you are done (first time, it'll probably take 10 minutes, subsequent times, maybe 5).
