Don't believe their description
I bought this primarily based on the description and the fact that, somehow, it had a lot of good reviews. This does NOT have a "crisp" ringtone, and it can only be heard clearly indoors when testing. The mechanic design of the bell creates its own counter-intuitive dampening of the sound, so no, it is not crisp or loud. In wooded areas, the sound doesn't carry well at all. You need to be almost right up to someone ahead of you in order for them to hear. Not good. The dimensions listed for the device are not accurate and do not include the length of the ringer. The device, as a whole, is way too large. The design of the device appears to not have taken into account the presence of gear shifts and/or brakes. The size is such that you cannot maintain grip the handlebar and ring the bell simultaneously. This can be dangerous on uneven or bumpy surfaces. The bell I purchased was intended to be used by the left hand, but for the aforementioned reasons, the only way to position the device in a manner that would allow for simultaneous grip of the handle, while ringing the device, was if I installed the bell on the right side of the handlebar with the bell facing me, for a downward motion on the thumb. This only created further sound dampening, as the bell was aimed behind me, rather than in front. The materials and construction of the bell is not good either. Yes, the bell is made of aluminum, but most of the device is plastic. Plastic does not resonate. The only redeeming quality is that it was easy to install, even if the size and design of the device did not lend to practical positioning. Don't buy this bell. Buy one that is made purely of metal, with a smaller physical footprint. Pay a little more.
