When I received my Ivation Food Dehydrator on May 21, 2016. I followed the instructions in the manual and turned it on to break it in before putting any food in it. It stunk to high heaven of plastic out-gassing during the initial run in and ran us out of the house. It continued to stink so I contacted Ivation via email requesting information about the plastics in the cabinet and shelves. No response, so I emailed them again. I finally received an email from Eric on May 25, 2016 in which he claimed: “I spoke to the product manager and he assured me that the trays are not made with BPA.” I followed with and email explaining that Inasmuch as this is a "food processing" device, it is imperative that the plastic is food grade. I requested written information about the specific plastics used in the device. I even listed the 7 most common plastics and asked information regarding which specific plastics are used in the dehydrator and in what part of the device they are used. Again, no response. So I sent another email. Eric finally responded on June 7, 2016 and wrote: “I apologize about the delay. I could not get detailed plastic information on this unit from the product Manager. I apologize about the inconvenience.” It is clear that the manufacturers and sellers of this product do not want me to know anything about the plastics in its construction. I cannot imagine feeding my family or friends anything dried and contaminated in this stinkpot, toxic food processor. All food processing equipment should have the materials identified at least as well as the plastic drinking bottles. I emphatically recommend against buying an Ivation Food Dehydrator. Incidentally, it is Made in china. I returned mine to Amazon.
