Pros: The cats both love it, the foam filter does a great job of keeping hair and gunk out of the motor, the plastic plumbing parts are easy to clean and the ceramic bowl does not "slime up" like the old plastic bowl did. Our last fountain used the same motor-- it would get *nasty* and was very annoying to clean. I was skeptical that the foam filters would do anything, but they really are a vast improvement. Cons: The power cable passes through a hole in the bottom of the bowl and up through a little plastic tube with an attached washer. The washer seals at the base and the tube extends above the water line at the top so the bowl doesn't leak. This plastic tube is very fragile and ours cracked along the threading that connects with the washer after only two cleanings. Once this happens the bowl leaks like crazy. There is a replacement plumbing kit available from the manufacturer for about $10 USD including shipping, but it looks like it's sold out. I hope that means they're looking for another supplier, but who knows? Also, while the lack of a water tank can be viewed as a positive (one less thing to have to clean out) it also means this fountain doesn't hold enough water to last through any sort of vacation. When it was working, our fountain required a top off every other day. I would really like to recommend this fountain. . .other than the tubing issue it really is a great product. If you do decide to buy it, be very careful with the power cord tube.
